Review

Why we bought it: We bought this product to go over a "patio door" in a 2 bedroom apartment. We had a single solid door, and wanted to be able to pass from the living room to the balcony without constantly opening and closing the door, and to allow more airflow into the space when not in use.

Pros and Cons

  • Pros:

  • Magnets along the middle strip worked well to automatically close the two pieces once opened.

  • Provided the functional elements we were looking for - being able to have access to the balcony at all times without letting the bugs in while leaving the exterior door open.

  • Installation was straightforward - no screws or permanent fixtures were needed to install (perfect for apartments).

  • Cons:

  • Materials were cheap. Over time the mesh ripped along the edges and plastic cups holding the magnets cracked allowing the magnets to fall out.

  • The sticky glue used on the door frame would get slimy and fall off when exposed to heat of the sun. This not only created a mess, but also saw the product fail as it would slide off the wall in places exposed to high heat.

6. Final Thoughts

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Although this product met our needs function wise, it fell short in its design. For us, there were too many design flaws for us to really enjoy this product. We felt the glue, although great for a nail free install, was too weak and gummy for summer use. By failing to adhere to the frame of the door properly, it only created a sticky mess that was more annoying than useful.

If you're still considering this product, install it in a space that does not get a lot of direct sunlight. If you do this, it will negate a lot of the main issues we saw with this product and you can enjoy the good features it did offer.
